Army Emergency Relief (AER)

Overview

Army Emergency Relief is the U.S. Army's own nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating financial distress on the force. AER provides grants and zero-interest loans to Active Duty and Retired Soldiers and their Families. Over 4 million Soldiers supported since 1942. Eligibility

The following individuals are eligible for AER assistance in accordance with Army Regulation 930-4:

  • Soldiers on active duty and their eligible dependents
  • Army Reserve and National Guard Soldiers activated on Title 10 orders for more than 30 days and their eligible dependents
  • Soldiers retired for longevity, medical, or upon reaching age 60 (reserve component) and their eligible dependents
  • Surviving spouses who have not remarried and children of Soldiers who died on active duty or died after reaching retirement eligibility

Applying For Assistance

Those needing assistance can go directly to Main ACS, 2494 Ricker Road, to begin the application process.  All applications must be submitted to an AER counselor with all required supporting documentation and appropriate signatures (if applicable). 

Emergency Travel applications will take precedence over all other applicants.

Spouses requesting AER assistance must have (Service member may be contacted for information or verification):

  • AER Special Power of Attorney and a valid military ID card.

Online Assistance Portal

  1. Sign in on top right of webpage.
  2. AER staff will reach out within 48 hours to discuss application submitted.
Scholarships

Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program

Spouses pursuing an undergraduate degree or professional certification may receive assistance for up to four academic years of full-time study or eight academic years of part-time study. Spouses may apply year-round (no deadlines) and must re-apply every year.

MG James Ursano Scholarship Program for Children

Children pursuing an undergraduate degree who meet eligibility criteria may receive assistance for up to four academic years. Children must re-apply every year.
